Sharp End: Fighting Man in World War II

Ellis

Amazon UK ref: 0712658912 | Amazon US ref:

A highly enlightening account of the nature and horrors of war at the sharp end as seen from a British perspective. Crammed with revealing and disturbing anecdotes and statistics, Ellis shows that the chances of survival amongst front-line infantry differed little from that of the First World War. Not that being in tanks was any better, threatened as one was with incineration. Besides the fear and pain of injury or death, one is also struck by the sheer physical discomfort of the extreme heat or extreme cold and wet to which soldiers found themselves subjected.
