Military Links - Historianshttp://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/PaddyGriffith A former Sandhurst lecturer and now a freelance military historan, Paddy Griffith specialises in the history of battlefield tactics in the period since 1789. A polemical revisionist, Griffith's works on low-level tactics have ranged from Vikings to Vietnam, and the many arguments advanced in his books are succinctly summarised on his own Website. Instead of relying on military manuals and the theoretical performance of military hardware, Griffith turns to the anecdotal evidence of eye-witness accounts to be found in memoirs. The thrust of Griffith's work has been to emphasise the relative importance of psychology over technology, a position that those he refers to as "hardware freaks" find difficult to accept. Griffith's early writings were in the field of wargaming and he was founder of Wargame Developments. His background in the demands of game mechanics goes hand in hand with an approach which is at once both analytical and highly practical. Griffith is not only a writer for the hobbyist and popular markets but author of very serious modern military studies which have attracted consideraton at the highest military and political levels, including helping to inspire the US Army's 1993 Field Manual (FM) 100-5. Stephen Turnbull http://freespace.virgin.net/stephen.turnbull/publicatons.htm Stephen Turnbull is the leading authority on Japanese military history, and the author of many books about samurai warfare.
