| home > about About armed-combat.comWelcome to armed-combat.com - a guide and gateway to military books focusing mainly on battlefield tactics and the experience of war at the sharp end. This project was originally conceived purely as a bibliographical one, but it soon became apparent that it would be more useful to help readers actually obtain the books we list and review. armed-combat.com retains a commitment to intelligent selection, independent review and evaluation, and the provision of original commentaries and articles. We don't recommend books we consider poor and we do include currently out-of-print books which you may be able to obtain secondhand. Our long-term intention is to move the emphasis of the site from reviews to our own commentaries and feature articles. Combat may not be the only subliminal dynamic of human psychology, but the centrality of armed conflict to world history can hardly be denied. Like other primal experiences, war evokes both fascination and fear. I share this fascination with other 'military enthusiasts', but I am glad to say that I have never had to experience the reality of military conflict and have no desire to do so. Amateurs should remember that whatever the attractions of military panoply and the excitement of action, the ultimate sharp end of war is the effect of weapons on human flesh. RIK - 1 July 1999. Amended 31 October 2002 and 10 April
2003. Founded as War 1 July 1999. Headquarters | Features | Reviews | Bookshop | Links | Sitemap | About This Site | Contact © armed-combat.com |
